What makes up funeral programs?

Used by bereaved families, funeral homes and funeral directors, funeral programs are printed pamphlets that highlight the the life of the recently deceased person. Generally, the recently bereaved family and friends supply the information and life facts displayed within funeral programs.

Below is the list that contains some of the essential elements of the funeral program.

A Funeral Program Layout

There are four sections that make up a typical funeral program layout. On the front of the funeral program, we find the first section, a cover/main tribute page which includes a photo of the deceased on the program cover page with their full legal name, including nicknames shown in (parenthesis).

The date of birth or "sunrise" as some like to refer to it, and date of death or "sunset" should also be indicated on the front cover of funeral programs.

In addition, funeral logistics (location, time, date) should be displayed either on this front cover or somewhere within the funeral program itself. Accurate information on the front is important, as it provides vital details about the deceased. It is not uncommon for employers to accept funeral programs as proof of attendance to a funeral/memorial service. So this little token of remembrance has multiple purposes.

The front cover is usually titled in fancy script lettering, "In Loving Memory" or "In Your Loving Remembrance". It can have any title you wish to write, just remember the program is a tribute to your loved one.

Funeral Order of Service Events

The funeral order of service is the next section of funeral programs and displays the order of service and or funeral rites. In many cultures there is a variety of different customs associated with death. Many of them are connected with the transition of the soul, and laying the soul of the decease finally to rest. An Officiating Minister, Eulogist, and Pastor are three resources which can help you with the funeral order of service.

The Life Obituary

The funeral obituary is noted as summarizes the life accomplishments and short biography of the deceased. You can make the obituary as long as room allows within your funeral program. If you are uncertain as to how to write an obituary, check out our funeral resources library section on obtaining this information.

The Back of the Funeral Program

This area can contain funeral poems, pallbearer and flower bearer information, a special note of acknowledgement from the family and the funeral home location, if desired.

We are committed to provide quality funeral programs and funeral program templates to assist our customers with ease in memorial bulletin preparations.
