Am I Lucky?

As friends depart and rivals leave,
The ending day is here,
Lessons and exams no more,
This school bell rings with cheer,
I look back at mistakes I’ve made,
Achievements, things I’ve won,
But matter not, I’m leaving school,
My learning days are done,

I can’t believe I’m really here, I can’t believe it’s true,
I have to thank him up above, I guess I must be lucky.

I join the queue and wait in line,
With pen in hand I’m eager,
To volunteer and join the fight,
Though efforts seem so meagre,
The Sergeant greets me by the hand,
He’d like to tell me more,
But we all know there is no time,
We’re off to win the war,

I can’t believe I’m really here, I can’t believe it’s true,
I have to thank him up above, I guess I must be lucky.

“It’s something I just had to do!”
Mum wants an explanation,
You said ‘A man must do what’s right,
without anticipation!’,
So don’t rebuke your big brave son,
Be proud, just let me go,
And as a hero I’ll come back,
So soon before you know,

I can’t believe I’m really here, I can’t believe it’s true,
I have to thank him up above, I guess I must be lucky.

I never really felt like this,
My heart it beats so fast,
Her kiss so sweet, her laugh so cute,
We know our love will last,
She tells me she will always wait,
We pledge our love tonight,
I promise I will buy the ring,
She promises she’ll write,
I can’t believe I’m really here, I can’t believe it’s true,
I have to thank him up above, I guess I must be lucky.

As I look out and see the blue,
There is no land for miles,
The waves creating whitened crests,
Enduring friendly smiles,
For some surroundings seem so dull,
But I just love the peace,
The Ocean takes me far away,
My pleasures never cease,

I can’t believe I’m really here, I can’t believe it’s true,
I have to thank him up above, I guess I must be lucky.

Confusion hits me all around,
It happened without warning,
Torpedoed somewhere below decks,
Just as the day was dawning,
I swim for life, it won’t last long,
Needing someone to save me,
Hard cold creeps up and takes its’ toll,
As I sink down so deeply,

I can’t believe I’m really here, I can’t believe it’s true,
I get no help from him above, I’m really not that lucky.

He never lived a real full life,
To me he’s still my child,
He thought himself so tough and strong,
But he was scared and mild,
We’ll never know what could have been,
Or what he might have done,
As without reason, sense or pride,
I’ve lost, my loving son,

I can’t believe it’s come to this, I can’t believe it’s true,
I have to tell him up above, I don’t think I’m that lucky.

Beautiful Eyes, Beautiful Face

Beautiful eyes, beautiful face,
I'm shy to talk to you.
You're the eagle I must watch
No matter what I do.

You're the beauty, wild and free,
The mistress of my eyes,
Rolling through exultant air,
Alone in pristine skies.

I would take you for my own
Could I but have your wings,
Could I but go where night begins
And frozen sunlight sings.

Could I but have you for my love,
How might we fly together!
But I must watch you from below
And long for you forever.
But I must be the one below
And long for you forever.
–Nicholas Gordon

Be Gentle: What You're Holding Is My Heart

Be gentle: What you're holding is my heart.
Remember in your honesty my pride.
If you don't want to see me, please don't hide
The truth, yet tell it with some art.
Though you may not have asked for me to call,
A single leap of hope must be allowed.
Not easily are shy songs sung out loud.
Yet now I wait alone outside your wall.
Nicholas Gordon

Shared Dreams

When dreams come close together
And whisper gentle thoughts
We tend to see reality
In ways that few are taught
We're reaching for the answers
Like blind men in a storm
To know again the feelings
We've known to be so warm
Exuberance unbounding
It takes your breath away
The drama of the moment
And words we've yet to say
Compunction stands behind us
A figment of the past
While dreams of times eternal
Are visible at last
–Robert Langley

Dream With Me

To dream with you this evening
As often times I do
To take a walk beside you
Through places that we knew
To orchestrate the feelings
Composed of winds and strings
To reach across the distance
And still the music rings
I’ve dance with you a thousand times
Yet each time is anew
I’ve marveled at the person
Who lives inside of you
Come out and play with me this day
And smile amidst the sun
It's time to leave the past behind
A new day has begun
–Robert Langley

It's All Right

Dry your eyes and cry no more
Your dreams await on nearing shores
A hand extends from someone near
To cast away your doubts and fears
It's time to start a life anew
With changes for the both of you
Cling not to the things you've had
Reminders of a time so sad
So rise about the mire and silt
And free yourself of fear and guilt
Question not the things unknown
Just please accept the love you're shown
Trust in things you cannot see
And maybe you'll believe in me
So now before you here I stand
Just make a wish and take my hand
–Robert Langley

My Daughter

I look into your eyes I see you're mind
I look into your heart I see you're kind
The things you say with only thoughts
Of people past forget-me-nots
And memories of a future soon to come
I look into your eyes I see past tears
I look into your heart I see your fears
The hopes and dreams you've always had
To live life happy, never sad
To have a rainbow for your very own
Like the views you've seen from mountaintops
That now seem far away
Or some future night on a moon lit beach
Of some enchanted bay
These things I say, you know are true
Though yet to be realized
I’ve looked at you and listened to
The you behind your eyes
–Robert Langley

Friends

I’m running to find you as fast as I can
To reach out and hold you and call you my friend
The dreams of a lifetime, the thoughts of a day
I wonder quite often if it'd be that way
I look to your memories and see your ideals
And think back in time and I know how it feels
So fear not fair lady for your journey is long
But I know that your heart and your spirit are strong
I know where you're going, I’ve seen where you've been
Just take hold my hand, and call me your friend
–Robert Langley

Remember Me

Dear I’ll see you one fine day
Another place, another way
Hold me close deep in your heart
And in that way we'll never part
Do the things we liked to do
If not for me than just for you
Tell the kids I love them so
And show them all the love we've known
Smile and let your heart be free
Know you'll always be with me
Your love, it let me live again
And now anew you must begin
I’ll be there for the things you do
And always be a part of you
You'll see me with each song you sing
As the twinkle in your wedding ring
–Robert Langley

The Promise

The winds of time blow softly now
Reminded of their silent vow
To watch the sons of man grow bold
Discovering the thoughts of old
Return to dreams of future past
Awakening the stones of light at last
To tell the tale of days of yore
And cities on forgotten shores
The path of light will lead you still
Beyond the realm of simple will
To venture forth toward destiny
And free the secrets of the sea
–Robert Langley
